Brian Sylva, elected in November 2016 to represent Trustee Area One on the Beaumont Unified School District Board. Representing the communities of Tournament Hills/Oak Valley One & Two, Fairway Canyon, Stetson, Plantation on the Lake, Rancho Calimesa, Sharondale, Singleton Heights, Solera, Hannon, Oak Valley Greens and (parts of) Cherry Valley.

 

Mr. Sylva, a longtime resident of the Inland Empire, has established long standing civic ties to the community. He sees voluntary public service as a great way to give back to his community, beginning with an appointment to the Homeowners Association Board for Tournament Hills/Oak Valley One in 2011, where he is currently the Association President. 

 

In 2012, Mr. Sylva was appointed to the Board of Directors for the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce, where he served as President of the Board for 2016 and is currently Vice President. In addition, Mr. Sylva is a member of the Board of Directors for the San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital Healthcare District, where he has served since May of 2014. 

 

Mr. Sylva graduated from the University of California, Riverside in 2004 with a bachelor’s in history. He and his wife, Jennie Rose, have been married for 12 years, and they have a Beagle.

 

Mr. Sylva is the Sports Information Director at College of the Desert, where he is a member of CSEA Chapter 407. Prior to accepting the position at COD he was the SID at San Bernardino Valley College for nine years. He has honed his craft within the field of Sports Information, using marketing strategies and social media campaigns learned while chief strategist to many local and statewide political races and nearly a decade as a reporter for the Riverside Press-Enterprise covering High School and Community College sports.

 

Mr. Sylva formally sat on the Executive Board of the Foothill Athletic Conference as the Conference Director of Sports Information which until July 2016, represented seven member schools. Of the 114 Community College's in the state of California, 105 have an athletics program, Mr. Sylva is one of 27 full time SID's in the entire state at the Community College level.

 

In August of 2011, Mr. Sylva was the focus of a feature article in the Banning-Beaumont-Cherry Valley- Cabazon Record Gazette. His article about the importance of a Community College education was featured in Beaumont Now in November 2014. In July of 2015, Mr. Sylva wrote a critically acclaimed article in Beaumont Now about his 5 years of living in Beaumont.

 

Mr. Sylva was elected President Elect for the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) in June of 2014 and has served as the judge of the State Student Athlete of the Month award on multiple occasions since 2007. He served as the head announcer for the 2010 CCCAA Women’s Volleyball State Championship and was the on-site Sports Information Assistant for the 2009 CCCAA Men’s Golf State Championship held at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont. In addition, Mr. Sylva was also the head media liaison for SBVC at the 2010 Men’s Basketball CCCAA State Championship.
